A Vampire burner, Vervain has many health benefits for humans

Vervain, also known as verbena in many regions, comes from Verbenaceae family of plants. This particular genus is known for having semi-woody flowering plants which yield annually. The family includes around 250 species of perennial herbaceous plants, which are indigenous to Europe and Americas.

Appearance of vervain:
Its leaves are hairy and grow very dense.  One can find the leaves placed in simple patterns in opposite directions. The flowers grow sharp spikes to protect the fragile system of five petals. The flowers grow in various shades of purple, pink or white but blue shade dominates. Polypoid South American lineage and diploid North American lineage are two major types of Vervain as the European counterpart is same as North American variety. The researchers have managed to cultivate many hybrid versions of vervain due to increasing commercial demand.

Applications of vervain:
The use of vervain differs from species to species. Many people are simply using them to decorate garden. It is helpful to maintain vervain in gardens of arid areas as it is drought proof, sustainable in harsh sunlight. Vervain also grows quickly in normal soil and doesn’t require special manure. These gardens quickly attract beautiful butterflies and birds. Planting vervain around food crops can keep many pathogens away.

Vervain has been a favourite choice in herbal treatments created by local communities. The use of this herb by doctors dates back to 1652 when Nicholas Culpeper documented its application.  The research has pointed out that vervain stimulates lactation and can act as a sex steroid. It is one of the 38 plants listed on Bach flower remedy list. The prestigious list compiles many alternative medicines for better health.

Serious conditions such as kidney stones, gout and jaundice can be treated well using vervain. It has been used in treatments of Psychological issues like anxiety, depression and insomania.
Vervain’s essential oil is also known as Spanish verbena oil. Though the quality of the oil is not superior to lemon verbena, the demand is constantly growing. The main drivers of the demand are herbalism and quick results on many medical problems.
