Lemon Balm busts stress and boost immunity

The most important aspect that keeps us all on the road to good health is a strong immunity.
In fact, if the defense mechanisms of our body are easily permeable to infectious microbes then that leaves us vulnerable to sickness. There is no better defense than natural immunity and Mother Nature has graciously blessed us with a wide variety of flora that will complement our defenses in the fight for better health. One of them is the wonder herb from the mint family and almost a mint lookalike- Lemon Balm.

Lemon balm, although a native plant of Europe, can be found in almost every garden in Australia and most parts of the world because of its versatile nature. Primarily it’s grown in gardens due to its reputation for being irresistible to bees which in turn will promote pollination. Below are a few ways it benefits immunity.

1) Stress buster
The mounting pressures of routine life and its demands make one anxious and stressed out. When the body is on overdrive there is no space to relax and rejuvenate sending the natural defenses to go awry. Rather than resorting to drugs like anti- depressants it is much safer to opt for a natural remedy like lemon balm extract. Although one of the expensive natural oils, a few drops of the extract when added to one's bottle of drinking water calms the mind. In sleep deprived individuals, it can induce sleep by soothing tense nerves and there is no risk of dependency attached to it.

2) Unblocks blocked nose.
Lemon balm extract, a few drops of it when applied on to a cotton ball and vapours when inhaled can unblock blocked nasal passages. The immunity also gets geared up to fight off the infection at a faster rate.

3) Tackles tummy trouble.
Indigestion and its associated signs like bloating and stomach ache can be due to excessive acid secretion in the gut or lack of gut flora due to antibiotic usage. These issues can also be tackled effectively by lemon balm. Remember to include it in your salads with green leafy veggies or make up a concoction of boiling the leaves of the plant in water and sip it twice a day. It will relax the digestive system and you can bid adieu to your indigestion.

Lemon balm is indeed a boon of nature. Include it in your diet and your health will thank you for it. Remember to take care of your body after all it’s the only one we have to live in.
